Houdini materials

This project was focused on learning how to make materials purely out of code using Houdini's language: Vex, which I found pretty similar to JavaScript. I created all textures and materials for this project; The wood, metal, and cloth were made through code, and the rest through Houdini's node based procedural material creator.

For the props I modeled the architecture, cutting board, and bowl. The rest were downloaded from Polyhaven and edited to fit the scene.

programs used:

wood Material

wood Parameters

This was the last and most complicated material I made for this project. I learned a lot more about coding in clean UI, creating more understandable variable names and organizing parameters into tab groups for easy adjustments.

Cloth Material

cloth Parameters

This material required the most intricate details and includes many masks layered within masks.

Dithered gingham

I made sure to create the lighter squares realistically, cross weaving the original dark color with white instead of just coloring the whole square solidly with an in-between color.

metal Material

Metal Parameters

This was the first material I made for this project, and the simplicity of metal in some ways made it the most difficult.
